1. Introduction to Simple Metrics
A metric in RevBI is essentially a mathematical formula applied to a specific property of an object. This formula aids in quantifying and analyzing data. For instance, to create a metric for the "amount of all opportunities greater than $100,000", one would select the "Opportunity" object, aggregate the "Amount" property, and set conditions to filter the data appropriately.
2. Understanding the Structure of a Metric
Metrics consist of several components:
-
Object: The entity being analyzed, such as "Opportunities," "Account," or "Events."
- Property: A specific attribute or field of the chosen object, like "Amount" or "Opportunity ID."
- Aggregation Operation: This operation, such as "Sum" or "Average," is performed on the chosen property.
Conditions/Filters: Criteria to determine which data points are included in the metric, e.g., total amount greater than $100,000.
3. Creating a Metric in RevBI
Steps to Create a Single Metric:
-
Accessing the Builder: Navigate to the "RevBi Building" section.
- Opening the Metrics Management: Visit the "Metrics Manage" page.
- Initiating the Creation: Click on the "Create Metric" button.
-
Naming the Metric: Give your simple metric a descriptive name.
-
Selection of Data Type: Choose between live or historical data. For this instance, select "Live data."
-
Metric Type: Choose the metric type. Options include:
-
Simple
-
Formula
-
-
Object and Property Selection: Pick the object and the corresponding property you wish to measure.
Aggregation Selection: Specify the field for the aggregation operation.
Conditions: Determine criteria that the data must meet. For date fields, the options will be date-related.
-
Advanced Options (Optional):
-
Cumulative sum over time.
-
Manager level aggregation.
-
-
Preview and Save: On the left side of the panel, metrics can be defined. The right side provides a preview. Once satisfied, save the metric.
Below, you'll find a walk-through of creating a metric in RevBi:

Metric Creation from Widgets: You can also create metrics on the fly while creating widgets (widget creation walkthrough outlined below). Just make sure while creating your widget you follow the same metric creation steps above, name the metric, and save it.
Metrics, once saved, appear in the "metrics tab," showcasing a list of all defined metrics. They are foundational and can be reused or integrated into widgets for data visualization.
Metrics in RevBI are pivotal tools, acting as custom calculations to meet specific analytical needs. These metrics, when visualized through widgets, offer comprehensive insights into complex datasets, facilitating better decision-making.
